ARTIST 

Leidy Laura Bencosme (1991) is a self-taught artist who utilizes art as a medium to express her feelings and continue challenging herself. All her work is a reflection of her sense of beauty and awe. Most of her inspirations come from growing up in a rich culture of a tropical island we know as The Dominican Republic. She developed an inclination for fine arts at a very young age.  In 2009, she moved to the capital of the world New York City.

As if leaving her home and friends isn't hard enough, Leidy had to now learn a new language and get accustomed to a completely different culture. It was not easy. There were many times things did not go as planned for her. Whenever life seemed to be spiraling like a ‘big wave’, Painting was her way to ‘surf it’ sort of speaking. For her Painting wasn't just a coping skill. At this point, focusing her attention on the oils, canvases, brush strokes, and blending colors to bring both reality and imagination to life brought her internal peace. 

Although Mrs. Bencosme has never received formal education in fine Arts, she mastered techniques in oil painting that allowed her to work briefly at the prestigious Guillo Perez Art School in the Dominican Republic before moving to New York City. Leidy continues to express herself the same way and is on the verge of accomplishing her artistic destination.

 

Now she shares her passion with her best friend and beloved husband Jonathan Castillo, a big admirer and supporter of her work.
